Numeracy Middle 6-8

High Yield Routines that are classroom ready:

Esti-Mysteries

Highly engaging and popular math routine for practicing reasonable estimation, math vocabulary, and pattern recognition.

Open Middle

Inspired by Dan Meyer, but carried through by some #MTBoS pioneers, dozens of K-12 tasks where students enjoy reasoning and making their thinking visible.

SPLAT

Dozens of powerful number sense images from SteveWyborney, along with suggestions for using them on Steve's website.

Numberless Word Problems

Got kids who jump into a solution attempt before trying to make sense of the context (we all do!)? Brilliant solution from Brian Bushart to remove the numbers to promote sense-making.  Plenty of examples here.

Clothesline Math

Chris Shore, Andrew Stadel and Daniel Luevanos team up to put an amazing twist on the number line for secondary classroom, which Tim McCaffrey calls the "Master Number-Sense Maker".

Estimation 180

A bank of hundreds of estimation tasks for 3rd to 12th graders by Andrew Stadel

Fraction Talks

A sweet garden of visuals for Nat Banting to kick start discourse with Fraction-Geometry-Algebraic Thinking connections out the WAH-ZOO.

Number Talk Images

Here's a great collection of images that will stimulate meaningful discourse.

Same and Different

Lots of images to support students in developing the habit of comparing and connecting representations.

A Year of Warm-ups

Shannon Andrews put together a year's worth of daily warm-ups including Estimation180, Visual Patterns, WODB and Would You Rather in slides and handouts!

Would You Rather?

John Stevens' spin on the classic "would you rather" supporting constructing viable arguments and critiquing reasoning

Which One Doesn't Belong

Daily K-12 tasks assembled by Mary Bourassa at http://wodb.ca/index.html

#MathFails

Sara Van der Werf’s compiled images of real-life math fails to get kids thinking.

http://www.visualpatterns.org/

Hundreds of daily visual patterns to strengthen connections between  algebraic representations by Fawn Nguyen

What's Going On in This Graph?

Weekly graphs and visuals to read and analyze.

Slow Reveal Graphs

As more and more of the graph is revealed, students refine their interpretation and construct meaning, often in surprising ways.
